

About Jay Sung
For over 25 years, Jay Sung has been a passionate leader in driving sustainable growth through direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, and customer acquisition strategies. As Operating Partner and Chief Marketing Officer at Brentwood Associates affiliate, BPE Growth & Operations, LLC (“Operations Group”), Mr. Sung oversees corporate branding and growth initiatives utilizing a continuously evolving toolkit of digital marketing strategies and technologies to drive innovative direct marketing programs supporting Brentwood’s portfolio companies. Working collaboratively with company leaders and management teams, he has developed a track record of operations and marketing success; driving profitable growth by executing strategic marketing initiatives in various consumer businesses spanning healthcare, apparel, online education, and hospitality.
Jay Sung is instrumental in guiding businesses with consumer acquisition strategies and internal processes necessary to take them to the next level of performance – from startups to Fortune 500 organizations. Previously, Mr. Sung served as Chief Marketing Officer for Guthy-Renker, a $1.3 billion industry leader in the direct-to-consumer health and beauty market. At Guthy-Renker, he managed a $350 million marketing budget across offline and online channels. He successfully launched many new digital marketing campaigns using emerging social media such as Facebook, YouTube, and Hulu to complement longstanding television-centric marketing channels. He is best known for developing consumer acquisition and marketing strategies for leading brands such as Meaningful Beauty® with Cindy Crawford, Wen® Haircare by Chaz Dean, IT Cosmetics™, and many others.
Mr. Sung served as President, North America for The Proactiv Company®, where he overhauled brand strategy and executed a digital transformation initiative that drove annual revenue growth, and its later acquisition by Nestlé Skin Health™, a pharmaceutical division of the Nestlé Company®.
Previously, Jay Sung served as the Chief Executive Officer for Lot18, where he led a turnaround for the $45 million venture-backed direct-to-consumer online retailers of fine wines. In addition, he served as Lot18’s Chief Marketing Officer, launching over 25 partnerships and marketing campaigns. Mr. Sung was instrumental in forging mutually beneficial strategic business alliances with leading business and consumer brands such as American Express® and Forbes Magazine®.
Among his many professional accolades, Mr. Sung was recognized and inducted into the Young Presidents’ Organization® (“YPO”), an international leadership community of extraordinary Chief Executives dedicated to positive global business impact through education and idea exchange.
His goal is to connect and continue learning about interesting, growing businesses, whether established or late-stage growth company, in need of a marketing transformation.
He is motivated by staying informed on emerging marketing trends and technology. If he’s not busy driving omnichannel growth initiatives or advising senior leadership, he’ll be working out, cooking, or practicing piano.
Mr. Sung earned his Bachelor of Science degree in economics with a double concentration in marketing and accounting from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
